http://www.swim-to-win.com/Northern.pdf
Sheffield Sprint Meet, Ponds Forge:- Saturday 23rd August
50M races again, some qualification times, but a great chance for swimmers to compete in one of the best pools in the country. Entry information can be found here:
http://www.sheffieldswimming.org.uk/index.php?page=130
We are still waiting on information about the ASA time trials in June, watch out for these, all my swimmers are expected to enter this.
Any questions, please email me back or see me on poolside. Ideally we need to get these open meets sent off within the next week.
Best regards,

Using the Bramcote results service
The blog post on using the Hy-Tek info is really useful once you start getting to know your way around it, but I fear that not many people will read it as it will soon slip out of view as new blogs appear.
How about a link on the home page so that the instructions are always easily accessible? A prominent link along the lines of 'Results & Times - How to Use Hy-Tek' would mean everyone would see it - even occasional visitors to the website.

Getting the most out of the Club results info
As well as seeing individual results of any club swimmer you can also see how swimmers of a particular age perform. So if, for example, you wanted to see the relative times of the 9 year old swimmers what you need to do is:
Select 'Team', then BSC as the Team Name. Select the course as 'SCM', and choose an age. finally, click on gender and event. Then you'll get the best time for all athletes in the age you selected. So for example, you might choose, 9 - 10 year old females and show the 25 Breastroke. This would list the swimmers / times showing fastest first.

Please prioritise league galas
Swimmers, please can you make sure you check our fixture list before entering Open Meets. These should not clash with any of Bramcote’s league galas, unless you are a Nova Swimmer and are asked to attend by your County Coach for either Midland or National Times.
If you cannot attend a gala, please let your coach know the reason rather than just crossing off. If it is a problem with lifts there are always parents willing to share. Just mark it on the sheet on the board and team selection will sort it out.
Thanks
Di

What is an Open Meet?
Open meets are competitions where swimmers compete against swimmers from other clubs in various parts of the country as well as each other. The club encourages its swimmers to attend certain Open meets. For those events an information sheet is given to swimmers regarding the event, age groups, days & dates of the competition.
Prizes are awarded to the top swimmers and the top club is awarded with a trophy. Medals are given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed swimmers in finals, sometimes all finalist receive medals. Swimmers swim in a heat, there may be several heats in each event. Times are then put together for their age group and usually the fastest 6 go on to the final.

Emma's achievements at the recent Olympic qualifying trials at Ponds Forge, Sheffield
Emma came fifth in the 100 and was the fastest youth swimmer. It was a PB and we are waiting for official confirmation that she is swimming in the World Youth Championships in the summer in Mexico. In the 200 she had a superb swim in the final and achieved a silver medal.
British Swimming are only taking one swimmer to the Olympics for the 200 and she was pre selected so she did not have to swim in Sheffield no other swimmer made the qualifying time.
We would like to thank Bramcote again for their continued support. The money that she was given paid for Emma`s accommodation at Sheffield as well as some of her training in Florida.
Many thanks again.

Results from Leicester Diddy Gala
Bramcote came fourth in this evening's Leicester Diddy Gala in Burton. We beat Long Eaton and Burton but we were beaten by Coventry, Swadlingcote and Kimberly. The stars of our team were the youngest members - the 9-year olds - who won several of their events. The 9 year old girls team was made up of Amy Warren, Anya Weaver, Emily Ingram and Eleanor Gladman and the boys were Oliver Cooper, Luke Farnsworth, Thomas Polkey and Ryan White. 9 year old Louisa Patrick swam in the 10 year old age group beating many of her older competitors. Bramcote were highly visibile in their red hats and red T-shirts and made more noise than any other team!
The full results were:-
Kimberley - 198
Swadlingcote - 182
Coventry - 160
Bramcote - 124
Long Eaton - 115
Burton - 98

Thanks from Harry & George's Dad...
Hello everyone..
Just wanted to say a big thankyou to everybody who has helped myself, Harry and George settle in to Bramcote SC so quickly after our move from Falcon.
I'd like to particularly thank Karen & Luke Thornton who were very welcoming when myself & Harry arrived without any prior notice one January night, and Tom Wilkinson whose coaching Harry has really enjoyed right from that first night.
George's enthusiasm for swimming has been transformed since joining Dianne's fastrack 'B' squad and I've already seen a huge improvement in his technique and fitness.
I've been really impressed with the number of committed people who are working hard for the club, and if this continues, I think there's no doubt that Bramcote will be seriously challenging the county's top clubs in the very near future.

Change in Teaching Operations Leadership
As you may be aware, John Ashworth has unfortunately taken the decision to resign from his position running the teaching operations here at Bramcote Swimming Club.
On behalf of the Committee, swimmers and parents/carers I would like to thank John for all the efforts he has put in and the successes he and his “pupils” have achieved whilst he has been with us.
We are sorry to see John leave us and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.
We are pleased to announce that the new leader for our teaching operations is already coming on board – Jannie Branch. We would like to welcome Jannie back to the Bramcote SC team, as she has worked with us in the past. We wish her every success as she moves into post.
She will be taking over from John shortly and we will soon be in a position to communicate and get you involved with our plans for the immediate future and longer term strategy for the club.
These plans will include addressing capacity issues in the main pool squads. This, in turn, will support assessment and progression of swimmers from and within the small/splash pool groups.

Core stability training - VOLUNTEER NEEDED
Hi parents
As you can see we are organising a course for core stability training. I need a reliable parent to take my swimmers for core stability exercises for 20 minutes on Sunday evenings between 8.00 and 8.30. As coaches are already busy with their B squad groups it would be good if I could get parents interested in taking the course and helping out with my group. If you would like to take the course please can you contact Paul Martin on the email below.

Thanks

Perfect training means perfect training
Hi swimmers
Take a look at your weekly swim plan. Our main target is that by September this year you will be able to do the following
200 Free 3.30
4 x 50 free target time for each free 52secs
100 IM 1.45
To increase your stamina we will be doing lots of 400 slow fc swims working towards the following (BORING I KNOW BUT HAS TO BE DONE)
Low fc stroke count of 17 strokes per length
Bilateral Breathing
Perfect strokes
Perfect turns
Work on strong fly leg kick will be done as we need this to be efficient on
Kicking out of the turn on fc
Kicking off the wall on backstroke
And of course butterfly
Lots of kick on fc will also be done with target time of hitting the wall on 2.30
Concentrate on every single turn off the wall on every stroke
REMEMBER PERFECT TRAINING MEANS PERFECT RACING.
SEE YOU ALL TONIGHT

Emma is 2nd best in UK

Bramcote swimmer, Emma Bird, swam an astonishing swim in this morning's 200m breastroke final. She lead for 150m and was only beaten by 10 hundreds of a second. She won't however, be going to Beijing as to be selected she needed a time of 2:28 - she was just two seconds short.
A big congratulations to Emma and to all the British swimmers, particularly those who have now qualified for the Olympics.

Just to draw your attention to these results from the British champs. If you look at this morning's results for the womens 100 breast, you'll see that Emma finished 5th in the final. This means that she is the 5th best in the UK at 100 breast!
Well done Emma!
