Congratulations to Luke Thornton

Congratulations to Luke Thornton who took part in his first Open Water swim at Bosworth water on Sunday 12th July. The swim was 1,500M and water temperature was a cool 17 degrees!

Luke finished 19th in a large field and swam the distance in 22 minutes and 9 seconds. After the race Luke said it was the best thing he had ever done and we are all hopeful this will be the start of a bright future in Open Water swimming for him.

Notts ASA Time Trials

The information for the Notts ASA Time Trials have been released below. It was quite late in the week when this became available so sorry for the short notice:

http://www.asaem.org.uk/nottsasa/SummerGala09

Please let me know by phone (07841 707 891) or email if there any questions on warm up etc.

An excellent idea was suggested to me regards warm up for those of you not swimming until later in the morning (e.g. just the 200M IM). If you don’t want to head down to the pool, warm up and then wait three hours, the usage of three lanes at Bramcote are available 8 – 9am – un coached. Swimmers could then head to the pool later in the morning rather than sit around on poolside. Another alternative would be to go to a public session at another swimming pool sometime during the morning before heading down. The key element is that a swimmer gets a warm up.

My advice would be regardless of when swims are, to be at the pool at least 30 minutes early. This is partly because parking at Beechdale is terrible and you may end up down one of the side streets around the leisure centre.

Finally, thank you to all the entrants we have had for this competition. Numbers are roughly equal with last year and I wish every swimmer the best of luck in whatever they are swimming.

Thanks and regards,

Tom Wilkinson

Parents evening

On the board at Bramcote I am placing parents evening slots. If you would like a parents evening sooner rather than later then please put your name down on the board from tonight.

Time slots begin week commending 12th July. Ideally I would like to speak with everyone, although with some of the older swimmers in the squad I am happy to talk one on with them if they’d prefer a discussion minus parent!

No training Sunday 12th July

The ASA Time Trials are nearly upon us, because the event is an all day affair there will be no training either in the morning or evening for A squad (Sunday 12th July).

My apologies for the barrage of emails this afternoon, I am working through a long list of tasks and didn’t have the foresight to collate some of them together!

Thanks,

Tom Wilkinson

A Squad/B Squad movement

Please note a change to the following sessions on a Sunday night:

Current structure

B Squad 7.45 – 8.30pm (Michelle’s lanes)
Junior A 8.30 – 9.30pm (Dianne’s lanes)

In order to offer the competitive swimmers in B Squad land training, while also answering the requests of many Junior A Squad parents to secure earlier training time for the swimmers, it has been agreed by both the coaches and the committee of the club that the following session structure will take place on a Sunday night:

New structure as of Sunday 19th July 2009

B Squad 7.30 – 8.20pm
land training with A Squad - field or dance room weather dependent (Michelle’s lanes)
8.45 – 9.30pm swim session (Michelle’s lanes)

A Squad 7.45 – 8.45pm Dianne’s lanes

The changes to session structure will be in effect from Sunday 19th July. However, B Squad swimmers should note that for this particular Sunday only there will be no land training due to a squad movement meeting.

If you have any questions regard this matter please do not hesitate to contact either myself or one of the coaching team.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in making Bramcote Swimming Club one of the best swimming programmes in the region.

No land training Sunday 19th July

Please note that on Sunday 19th July there will be no land training (normally 7.30 – 8.20).

Regards,

Tom

Next week's badge gala

Please note we have a badge galas on Tuesday 7th July and Tuesday 14th July. A Squad swimmers will need to arrive at 6.30pm for the warm up. Training will be on as normal as soon as the badge gala is over, however this may mean a slightly reduced session on the night (typically 45 minutes). Those who normally swim two hours on a Tuesday still have the second hour to look forward to.

Thanks and regards,

Tom Wilkinson

Places available for the Great North Swim

As I'm sure you are already aware, the swim is a one mile open water swim in Lake Windermere taking place on the weekend of 12th & 13th September. Last year was the first time the event took place with over 2,500 participants, this year the event has grown to 5,000 places for elite, championship, charity and fun swimmers alike.

Cerebral Palsy Sport has 8 remaining places for the event and we are trying to find swimmers to swim and raise money for the charity. As a small charity we do not have the resources to spend money on marketing and advertising to fill these places and therefore have to use our network of family, friends, members and business contacts to assist us with this so I would really appreciate you helping to spread the word.

Cerebral Palsy Sport helps to change the lives of children and adults with disabilities through participation in sport. Cerebral palsy is the most common form of severe disability in children worldwide and results in a range of physical difficulties. Many people with the condition find themselves marginalised in society and have psychological problems due to frustrations caused by their disability. People with disabilities come to our sporting events and relish the opportunity to participate in sport in an inclusive environment where they are no longer made to feel ‘different’. We rely on fundraising from events such as this to continue our important work.

If you would like to give me a call to discuss this further, then please do so on 0115 925 2620.

Many thanks,

Rachael

NORTHERN OPEN MEET RESULTS - STILL AWAITED

There is a major problem with these results - apparently their results file has been corrupted and at the moment they cannot retrieve them. They have someone working to fix the problem.

I have emailed Northern to ask if there is a paper copy which can be photocopied and posted to me.

Really sorry for all of our swimmers who did great times and are waiting to see them on our database, but I'm sure we will get the results eventually.
